Our staff is trained and certified in a diversity of sustainable practices including agroforestry, permaculture, and Florida-Friendly Landscape Design Principles. This background provides a solid foundation for designs that are innovative, productive and ecologically sound. 

We value plant diversity and incorporate native species into our designs. We do this to encourage beneficial plant relationships and the formation of an ecologically healthy plant community. A diverse and stable plant community will better resist environmental stress and be more resilient to storms and surge events.  Greater plant diversity also leads to more variety of fruits, berries, and other edibles that are available to you and local wildlife, birds, butterflies and insect pollinators.

We know that events such as hurricanes, floods, drought and even freeze or frost are a reality in southwest Florida.  These all have significant impacts on our landscapes and lives.  We take extra care in our designs and installation to mitigate the impact of these kinds of severe weather.  Appropriate plant selection, planting windbreaks, modifying drainage or planting on mounds and berms are all part of reducing the damaging effects of these events.  

Our highest priority is to carefully select plants that are appropriate for the site conditions and climate.  We utilize well-adapted edible plants as well as natives because they are proven to be more resilient to the stresses and challenges of our southwest Florida conditions.  Our team hand selects high quality plant material for your landscape to ensure that the plants establish quickly and flourish.

We combine plants into mutually beneficial planting arrangements using various support and aromatic plants as companion plants for long term fruit trees.  Native wildflowers and other pollinator plants also support young trees by encouraging beneficial insects and improving fruit production.

Building soil health is a top priority in all of our installations.  We encourage the development of beneficial soil microbial life through the generous application of high quality compost, incorporating biochar and inoculating the soil with beneficial soil microorganisms.  A strong community of soil microbes is the foundation for a healthy landscape.  We strive to improve your soil because we know that this will ultimately help your landscape thrive long term.

We utilize highly efficient irrigation practices for our landscapes, using both drip and micro irrigation techniques.  This approach delivers water to the root system of your plants with minimal loss to evaporation, while not watering paths or unplanted areas which just results in more weed growth.

We recommend heavy mulching with a melaleuca based mulch product to reduce the use of Cypress-based mulch in landscapes. We value the importance of cypress trees in our natural ecosystems and want to promote conservation of these beautiful trees.  Melaleuca is an invasive tree that has negative impacts on our southwest Florida ecology, so we are glad that these trees can be removed to provide a high quality mulch product.
